NUR 415 – Perianesthesia Nursing is a senior-level course in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at the University of Miami. The course provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide safe and effective care to patients undergoing surgery. Students will learn about the physiology of anesthesia, the management of pain, and the care of patients in the pre-, intra-, and post-operative periods. They will also develop the skills they need to monitor patients’ vital signs, to administer medications, and to provide emotional support.
Upon successful completion of NUR 415 – Perianesthesia Nursing, students will be able to:
- Describe the physiology of anesthesia
- Identify the types of anesthesia
- Manage pain in the perianesthesia period
- Provide care to patients in the pre-, intra-, and post-operative periods
- Monitor patients’ vital signs
- Administer medications
- Provide emotional support to patients and their families
- Communicate effectively with other healthcare professionals
