NUR 441 – Public Health Nursing is a senior-level course in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at the University of Miami. The course introduces students to the principles and practices of public health nursing. Students will learn about the concepts of population health, health disparities, and social determinants of health. They will also develop the skills they need to assess the health needs of populations, to develop and implement interventions to address those needs, and to evaluate the effectiveness of those interventions.
Course Objectives:
Upon successful completion of NUR 441 – Public Health Nursing, students will be able to:
- Define and explain key concepts in public health nursing
- Describe the principles of population health
- Identify and analyze health disparities
- Explain the social determinants of health
- Develop and implement interventions to address population health needs
- Evaluate the effectiveness of population health interventions
- Communicate effectively with community members, healthcare providers, and policymakers
