NUR 444 – Care of Populations with Psychiatric Concerns (3) at Utica University is a three-credit undergraduate course that introduces students to the principles and practices of psychiatric nursing.
The course covers a wide range of topics, including:
- The epidemiology of mental illness
- The etiology and pathophysiology of common mental illnesses
- The assessment and diagnosis of mental illness
- The pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment of mental illness
- The nursing care of patients with mental illness across the lifespan
- The ethical and legal considerations in psychiatric nursing
Students in NUR 444 will develop the knowledge and skills they need to provide safe and compassionate care to patients with psychiatric conditions. They will also learn how to collaborate with other healthcare professionals and community partners to support the needs of their patients and their families.
Prerequisites: NUR 321 – Foundations for Nursing Care and NUR 326 – Health Assessment
