NUR 461 – Health Disparities Research Practicum is a senior-level course in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at the University of Miami. The course provides students with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in conducting research on health disparities. Students will work with faculty mentors to develop and implement research projects that address health disparities in diverse populations. They will also develop the skills they need to collect, analyze, and interpret data, to write research papers, and to present their findings to others.
Course Objectives:
Upon successful completion of NUR 461 – Health Disparities Research Practicum, students will be able to:
- Define and explain key concepts in health disparities research
- Develop a research plan to address a health disparity
- Collect, analyze, and interpret data
- Write a research paper
- Present research findings to others

Prerequisites:
NUR 461 requires the following prerequisites:
- Completion of all core nursing courses
- GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Must have taken NUR 440 – Population Focused Nursing or NUR 441 – Public Health Nursing
