NUR 485 – Global Health: Transcultural Nursing is a senior-level course in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at the University of Miami. The course provides students with the knowledge and skills they need to provide culturally competent nursing care to diverse populations. Students will learn about the concepts of culture, cultural diversity, and cultural competence. They will also develop the skills they need to assess cultural needs, to develop culturally appropriate care plans, and to provide culturally competent care.
Course Objectives:
Upon successful completion of NUR 485 – Global Health: Transcultural Nursing, students will be able to:
- Define and explain key concepts in transcultural nursing
- Describe the importance of cultural competence in nursing practice
- Identify the cultural factors that influence health and illness
- Assess cultural needs
- Develop culturally appropriate care plans
- Provide culturally competent care
- Demonstrate an understanding of the ethical considerations in providing care to diverse populations
