NUR 487 – International Health: Transcultural Nursing is a senior-level course in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at the University of Miami. The course provides students with the knowledge and skills they need to provide culturally competent nursing care to diverse populations in an international context. Students will learn about the concepts of culture, cultural diversity, and cultural competence in a global health setting. They will also develop the skills necessary to assess cultural needs, to develop culturally appropriate care plans, and to provide culturally competent care across borders.
Upon successful completion of NUR 487 – International Health: Transcultural Nursing, students will be able to:
- Define and explain key concepts in transcultural nursing and international health
- Describe the importance of cultural competence in nursing practice within a global context
- Identify the cultural factors that influence health and illness in different countries
- Assess cultural needs across diverse populations
- Develop culturally appropriate care plans considering international health settings
- Provide culturally competent care while respecting local customs and traditions
- Demonstrate an understanding of the ethical considerations in providing care to diverse populations in an international context

Prerequisites:
NUR 487 requires the following prerequisites:
- Completion of all core nursing courses
- GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Successful completion of NUR 485 – Global Health: Transcultural Nursing
