NURS 240 is a two-credit undergraduate course that explores the unique nursing needs of survivors of violence.
The course covers a wide range of topics, including:
- The definition and prevalence of violence
- The different types of violence
- The impact of violence on survivors, including physical, emotional, and mental health consequences
- The role of nurses in providing care and support to survivors of violence
- Culturally competent and trauma-informed care for survivors of violence
Students in NURS 240 will develop the knowledge and skills they need to provide compassionate and effective care to survivors of violence. They will also learn how to advocate for the safety and well-being of survivors of violence.
NURS 240 is a lecture and discussion-based course with a strong emphasis on experiential learning. Students will participate in a variety of activities, including:
- Case studies
- Role-playing exercises
- Guest lectures from experts in violence prevention and victim services
- Field trips to domestic violence shelters and rape crisis centers
