NURS 365 is a three-credit undergraduate course that introduces students to the pathophysiology of common diseases and the pharmacology of medications used to treat those diseases.
The course is offered during the student’s third year of the nursing program and is concurrent with the student’s first clinical rotation.
Upon completion of NURS 365, students will be able to:
- Identify and describe the pathophysiology of common diseases
- Apply knowledge of pathophysiology to the assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients
- Explain the pharmacology of medications used to treat common diseases
- Apply knowledge of pharmacology to the safe and effective administration of medications
- Communicate effectively with patients and families about their diseases and medications
NURS 365 is a lecture and discussion-based course with a strong emphasis on case studies and problem-solving.
Students will participate in a variety of activities, including:
- Case studies
- Role-playing exercises
- Guest lectures from experts in pathophysiology and pharmacology
- Field trips to hospitals and other healthcare settings
- Reflective journaling and essays
Prerequisites
Completion of the second year of the nursing program
