NURS 480 is a one- to three-credit undergraduate course that allows students to pursue an independent study project in a nursing-related topic of their choice.
Under the guidance of a faculty mentor, students will design and conduct their own research project, write a thesis or research paper, and present their findings to the faculty and other students.
Upon completion of NURS 480, students will be able to:
- Identify and develop a research question in a nursing-related topic of their choice
- Design and conduct a research project using appropriate methods
- Analyze and interpret research data
- Write a thesis or research paper that communicates their research findings effectively
- Present their research findings to an audience of peers and faculty
NURS 480 is a self-directed course with a strong emphasis on independent work. Students will meet with their faculty mentor on a regular basis to discuss their progress and receive feedback. Students are expected to complete all aspects of their research project, including literature review, data collection and analysis, and writing and presentation of their findings.

Completion of the third year of the nursing program and permission of the faculty mentor
