NURS 620 is a graduate-level course that introduces students to the rationale, research, and practices of mindfulness and self-compassion in the context of the caring professions.
Students will learn about the benefits of mindfulness and self-compassion for both providers and clients, and they will develop the skills they need to integrate these practices into their own work.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Define mindfulness and self-compassion and explain their benefits for providers and clients.
- Identify and discuss the evidence base for mindfulness and self-compassion interventions in the caring professions.
- Integrate mindfulness and self-compassion practices into their own work with clients and colleagues.
- Apply mindfulness and self-compassion principles to their own self-care practices.
Prerequisites:
NURS 620 is open to graduate students in the School of Nursing who have completed the following prerequisites:
- NURS 604: Advanced Pathophysiology
- NURS 606: Advanced Pharmacology
- NURS 612: Advanced Health Assessment
