NURS 697 is a capstone course that provides students with the opportunity to demonstrate their mastery of the knowledge and skills they have learned throughout the nursing program. In this course, students will focus on the unique healthcare needs of transgender and gender non-conforming people.
Students will learn about the transgender experience, the latest research on transgender health, and the best practices for providing transgender-affirming care.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Define and discuss the key concepts related to transgender identity and gender expression.
- Identify and assess the unique healthcare needs of transgender and gender non-conforming people.
- Apply evidence-based practices to provide transgender-affirming care in a variety of settings.
- Advocate for the rights and well-being of transgender and gender non-conforming people.
Prerequisites:
NURS 697 is open to graduate students in the School of Nursing who have completed the following prerequisites:
- NURS 604: Advanced Pathophysiology
- NURS 606: Advanced Pharmacology
- NURS 612: Advanced Health Assessment
- NURS 625: Global & Interprofessional Approaches to Solving Complex Cases
