NURS 722 is a graduate-level course that examines the principles of psychopharmacology and neurobiology for safe and effective psychotherapeutic management of individuals with psychiatric and mental health problems across the lifespan. Students will learn about the neurobiological basis of psychiatric disorders, the mechanisms of action of psychotropic medications, and the evidence-based use of medications in the treatment of specific psychiatric disorders.
The course will also cover the principles of psychopharmacologic monitoring and management, as well as ethical considerations in the use of psychotropic medications.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

- Apply evidence-based principles to the use of medications in the treatment of specific psychiatric disorders.

NURS 722 is open to graduate students in the School of Nursing who have completed the following prerequisites:
- NURS 604: Advanced Pathophysiology
- NURS 606: Advanced Pharmacology
- NURS 612: Advanced Health Assessment
- NURS 715: Pathophysiology for Advanced Nursing Practice
