For this week’s homework assignment, you will be selecting 10 Scholarly sources about your topic.
Please Note* If you cannot find 10 sources, that should be a red flag for you that your topic is not a viable research project, and you may need to amend your study. However, don’t throw in the towel if you are really passionate about the subject. Use other search engines like Google Scholar etc., to find other information about your topic, and/or change around the words you are searching, to see what response you get. This activity is part of the research process.*
Once you secure 10 sources, you’ll then need to synthesize them. To synthesize your articles follow these steps:
Read the article
Note the abstract (what the study is about, what the researcher did, and what results it produced)
Note any wording that stuck out to you, the unknown about your topic, that made you go hmmmmm….
Note any limitations and/or need for future research.
Then, bring together those elements to write a short summary describing that article and how it relates to your study.
Example:
Article 1.
Conduct Problems Prevention Research Group. (2010). The Effects of a Multiyear Universal Social–Emotional Learning Program: The Role of Student and School Characteristics. Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 78(2), 156–168. to an external site.)Links to an external site.
